Forgiveness and praise join in my life’s song,
Celebrating together the unfettered thanks,
Of a life lived in complete freedom,
Nothing is held back from me,
I sit back and watch everything being set right,
Amazement is the gift given to a clean heart and right spirit.
This newness has existed forever,
Surprise comes because of its awakening in me,
First is wonder at the capacity of his love,
All of eternity will be spent exploring this,
In the meantime God is so patient with me,
My uncertainty is treated tender care,
Gently nudging me to the righteous path,
Forgiven for when I sought to make my way,
Stupidly thinking that I knew more than God,
I didn’t get what I deserved for unfaithfulness,
Brokenness gave me the lovely knowing of the Beloved child,
The welcome reserved for the prodigal’s return,
Never seeking to rub my sin in my face,
A clean slate the given to start fresh again.
Compassion is the welcome given to the failed life,
The one that knows the hopelessness that comes,
When trying to do it “my way!”
Spending all my time on things that are quickly forgotten,
Ends in a life moving in anxious futile circles,
Eternity invites me to the expanse of love’s horizon,
Joined together in the Holy promise of obedience,
Trusting in the one sure thing of my precious life.
In everyone and everything I will find God’s praise,
I will spend my time seeking God’s work in all things,
I will sing God’s song, knowing all is well,
Remembering to begin and end my day with praise,
My innermost parts joining with my voice,
To declare God’s restoration of my broken life.
